Student sought for Maine education board

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — There’s an opportunity for a Maine high school student looking for a little extra homework.

The state Board of Education is seeking a student from the 1st Congressional District to serve as a nonvoting member. Student members’ responsibilities include staying on top of current education issues, carefully preparing for regular monthly meetings and participating in board of education discussions.

There are also some perks: pay of $55 per day and mileage reimbursement.

Candidates must be current sophomores in good standing and the student appointed will serve throughout his or her junior and senior years. The governor will appoint a candidate, subject to review by the Legislature’s Education Committee and confirmation by the Senate.
