MAPLETON, Maine — State police are investigating an accident that occurred on Route 163 on Tuesday afternoon.

Katina Lavertu, 38, of Garfield was driving a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck north on Route 163 just after 2 p.m. when the vehicle left the road, struck a snowbank, flipped end over end and struck a utility pole, according to a press release from state police in Houlton.

Lavertu suffered minor injuries and was taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle. The vehicle had extensive damage. There did not appear to be any disruption to power service and no apparent damage to the pole, the press release said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Trooper Rob Flynn. Flynn was assisted by the Mapleton Fire Department.
