Maine trustees get status report on future plan

The Associated Press

BANGOR, Maine — The University of Maine System board of trustees is receiving a status report on the chancellor’s initiative to bring the state’s universities into financial sustainability in the future.

Chancellor Richard Pattenaude is presenting an update to his “New Challenges, New Directions” initiative to the board at its meeting Monday in Bangor.

Pattenaude’s plan aims to reduce expenses at the state’s seven universities by $42.8 million over the next four years through “major transformational changes.” The plan focuses on administrative, academic and structural changes.

As part of the initiative, a 12-member task force has been holding meetings throughout the system. The task force will make recommendations to Pattenaude in June.
