BINGHAM — Friends of the Bingham Union Library and the Valley High School Class of 2008 have raised $650 to aid renovations now in progress at the library, according to librarian Rachel Tremblay.
Bryan Savoy of Plum Creek recently presented the library board of directors with a grant of $5,000 from the Plum Creek Foundation. Tremblay said that amount is earmarked for new shelving and furnishings.
A grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation also will aid work to turn a shed attached to the library into a new room.
Tremblay said tentative plans are to set up computers and a young adult area in what was once the kitchen and to move the children’s area from the south room into the new room. The south room will be used as a reading and study area for small group meetings and for the Maine and historical collections.
Sandi Tremblay has volunteered to staff the library so that hours and days of operation can be expanded.
Plans also are being discussed on how to share space with the Old Canada Road Historical Society.
Serving on the board of directors are Carla Small, Rachel Tremblay, Kelly Vicnaire, Doug Drown and Sandi Tremblay.
