27-mile Maine chase ends in an arrest

AUGUSTA, Maine — A 25-year-old man was arrested after leading state police on a 27-mile chase that reached speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Paul Coyne was arrested following the chase Thursday night from Sidney to Waterville and back to Augusta. Coyne, formerly of Hallowell, faces nearly a dozen charges and was in Kennebec County jail in Augusta.

Among the charges against Coyne are reckless conduct with a motor vehicle, criminal speed and operating after suspension. The 1999 Pontiac Grand Am Coyne drove was reported stolen from Madison.

The car was clocked on Interstate 95 in Sidney at 102 mph. The chase ended when Augusta police used spike mats to pop a tire.
