WOODLAND – Herman Gerald “Rocky” Mamitsch, 80, died March 10, 2009, in Portland. He was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Tappan, N.Y., son of Herman and Maybel (Lyon) Mamitsch. He was a graduate of Nyack High School. Rocky retired as the owner of an excavating company in Tappan, N.Y. He was active in Ramapo Motorcycle Club and Tappan Fire Department, where he was fire chief from 1959 to 1961. Rocky achieved his dream of enjoying life in Caribou. He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Maureen and Vincent Perilli of Ossining, N.Y.; nieces, Eileen, Marie, Kathleen and Janet; nephews, Charles and Timothy; 14 great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family and many dear friends, including James Keenan, Dave Thamsen, Edwyna Mills and Kendall Sutherland. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Aaron Damboise, associate pastor, officiating in a Mass of Christian burial. Spring interment will take place at New Holy Rosary Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Rocky may do so to Holy Rosary Catholic Church Memorial Fund.
