DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — Selectmen awarded a contract Monday to Haley Construction Co. of Sangerville for sewer collection system construction.

Eight bids were received and the Sangerville firm bid the lowest, $750,990. The project, which involves replacement of 1.2 miles of old pipe, is being funded through a $850,000 loan and a $700,000 grant.

“We were very pleased with how the bids came in,” Town Manager Jack Clukey said Tuesday. Work is expected to begin in May.

Selectmen decided Monday not to designate a 4-mile section of road from Stedman’s Landing Road to Route 16 for all-terrain vehicle traffic. A resident had asked the board last month if it would consider the move.

The board discussed the request in committee and generally opposed the move, Clukey said. Selectmen voted to adopt a policy that adheres to the 500-yard limit set by the state for going from trail to trail, but also agreed to consider special circumstances.
