PITTSFIELD – Wayne V. Lancaster, 71, died March 7, 2009, at his home after a long illness. He was born July 24, 1937, in Ripley, the son of Vernard F. and Abbie S. (Sawtelle) Lancaster. He was a graduate of Newport High School, Class of 1957. Wayne owned and operated the Bar-L-Ranch, Newport, for many years. For more than 33 years he was employed at Agway Feed, Detroit. He was a member of Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge, Newport, and Anah Shrine, Bangor. Wayne was a basketball coach for his children’s teams while they were growing up. He was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed weekly cribbage matches with family and friends. His wife of 24 years, Doris Simons Lancaster, predeceased him Feb. 4, 2006. He is survived by his daughter, Julie Thibodeau and her husband, Joseph, of Lincoln; two sons, Gregory W. Lancaster and his wife, Deatra, of Trenton and Timothy J. Lancaster Sr. and his wife, Lottie, of Newport; two brothers, his twin, Duane Lancaster of Lowell, Mass., and Clyde “Lefty” Lancaster of Oakland and Florida; one sister, Dorothy and her husband, “Red” Dunphy, of Pittsfield, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his children’s mother, Judy McKenzie of Newport. Graveside services will be conducted in the spring in the family lot at Corinna Center Cemetery, Corinna.
