Maine wins two games
At Kissimmee, Fla., three University of Maine players hit home runs to lead the Black Bears by the Crusaders for their second straight win in the first game of a Rebel Games tournament doubleheader. Maine defeated Detroit 5-2 in the second game. In the first game, Alexis Souhlaris hit her team-leading seventh homer this season for the 7-10 Bears while second baseman Ashley Waters hit her second and outfielder Kali Burnham. Senior Jenna Balent improved her record to 3-1 by picking up the win. Caitlin Belanger and Courtney Nealon each hit RBI singles for the 1-7 Crusaders. In the second game, Cayleigh Montano gave up just one earned run in a complete-game effort as the Black Bears improved to 8-10. Souhlaris went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored while Lyndsey Jenkins doubled to knock in a run for Maine. Terren Hall and Courtney Gingrich added a pair of singles for the winners.
Bridgewater State 95, St. Joe’s 79
At Bridgewater, Mass., Bridgewater State shot 66 percent from the field for the game and 73 percent in the second half to beat St. Joseph’s of Standish in a first-round NCAA Division III tournament game. Nicholas Motta paced the winners with 26 points and Judah Jackson added 23. Tyler Kelley led St. Joseph’s with 16 points, Chris Davis added 14, Ray Eatmon netted 13 and Elbie Murphy put in 10.
