At the Colisee in Lewiston, Ian Rowe and Eric Aldridge scored goals 26 seconds apart in the second period to lead Waterville to its first Eastern Maine title since 2001. The Purple Panthers advance to Saturday’s 6 p.m. state final, also in Lewiston. Rowe’s goal was unassisted while Curtis Shaput assisted on Aldridge’s goal. Rowe added an insurance tally in the third period, with Aldridge getting the assist. Nolan MacDonnell had 17 saves for 20-1-1 Waterville while Cam Poussard stopped 42 of 45 shots for Lewiston, which finishes 13-7-1.
Maine earns split
At Orlando, Alexis Souhlaris pitched a five-hitter as Maine defeated South Florida 1-0 in the second game of a doubleheader. USF took the opener 7-1. In the second game, Souhlaris walked two and struck out one in earning the win while homering in the first. Lyndsey Jenkins added two singles for Maine. In the first game, Britta Giddens had a double, single and two RBIs while Cat Olnick hit a two-run homer to spark South Florida. Ashley Bullion singled and doubled (two RBIs) for the winners. Terren Hall knocked in a run with a single for the Black Bears.
