Will the new border crossing rules work smoothly?

As of June 1, U.S. citizens returning home from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean region and Bermuda must have a passport or a a passport card as part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. Will the new system work smoothly, or will lines at border crossings in Calais and Jackman be backed up for hours? Is this new system a wise move to make the U.S. safer from terrorism and illegal immigration? Or will the new system be easy to defeat? Should Maine adopt the enhanced drivers license, which the federal government allows as an alternative to the new passcards? Will the new rules hurt trade with Canada?
