TRESCOTT – James Edward Foley Sr., 88, died Feb. 28, 2009, at a Machias health care facility. He was born Oct. 17, 1920, on the family farm in Trescott, the son of Vincent and Delia (Murry) Foley. Being raised on the family homestead he loved being outdoors, riding on his tractor and working in the woods. He also enjoyed working in his machine shop. After he graduated from high school, he went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. He later received training to become an electrician and then worked for and retired from American Can Co. He also enjoyed visiting with the residents at the nursing home after church on Sundays. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lubec, and a member of Knights of Columbus and Lubec Lions Club. He is survived by a son, James Foley Jr. and his wife, Delia, of Portland; daughters, Marie Orlander of Texas and Sharon Prout of Jonesboro; stepchildren, Wanda Hargrove, Paulette Mulholland, Joan Roberge, Karen Huntley and Michael Seeley; a sister, Arlene Friel of Houlton; a brother, Lawrence Foley of Louisiana; 10 grandchildren, Jimmy III, Todd, Stephen, David, Traci, Jody, Kelly, Melissa, Jocelyn and Makayla; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Freda (Smith); two daughters, Beverly Ann and Patricia Irene Rideout; and a brother, Maurice. A wake will be held 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Sacred Heart Church, Lubec, where a funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Very Rev. Eugene Gaffey, celebrant. Interment will be held later in the spring at Old Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in his memory may do so to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
