BANGOR – Frieda L. Miller, wife of the late Abe H. Miller, lifelong resident of Bangor, passed away March 1, 2009, at a local health care facility. She started their business on State Street during the 1930s, then known as Frieda Miller Variety, now known as Miller Drug. The Miller store was a hallmark in the Bangor area while Frieda and Abe became a local institution. She was a tireless volunteer for the following area charities: Bangor Nursing & Rehab Center, United Cerebral Palsy, Camp CaPella, Patawa Club and Phillips-Strickland House; she was a Lionette and a member of Congregation Beth Israel. She is survived by her children, Bernard William (Gloria) of Bangor, A. Sybil Michelson (Gerald) of New York City, Stephen (Ellen) of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Howard Miller (Jan) of Hawaii, Randi Smuckler (William) of Canton, Ohio, Lori Prescott (George) of Scarborough, Deborah Solomon (Doug) of Canton, Mass., Gregory Miller (Breyna) of Cincinnati, Daniel Miller (Anne) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Richard Miller (Hardy) of Irving, Texas, Charles Miller (Amy) of Plano, Texas, and Seth Miller (Carrie) of Orlando, Fla.; 16 great-grandchildren, Megan, Meredith and Hillary Smuckler, Sam, Eric and Jacob Solomon, Ben and Tucker Miller, Sarah and Cory Prescott, Matthew and Samantha Miller, Ava Miller, Zoe Miller, Michaela and Elijah Miller; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Abe; her son, Max “Mickey” Miller and his wife, Ellen; three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Congregation Beth Israel, 144 York St., Bangor, with Rabbi Steven Schwartzman officiating. Interment will be afterward at Beth Israel Cemetery. After the interment the Meal of Consolation will be held in the Epstein Room at Beth Israel. Shiva will be observed 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, and Thursday, March 5, at 106 Dewitt Ave., Bangor.
