Threatening message clears Deer Isle high school

By Bill Trotter, BDN Staff

DEER ISLE — Students at Deer Isle-Stonington High School temporarily were disrupted from their classes early Thursday afternoon after a threatening message was found scrawled on a bathroom wall.

School officials evacuated the building and called Maine State Police after learning about the threat.

Trooper Greg Mitchell said Thursday officials have not determined who wrote the threatening message, but believe it was a male student. The message was found in a boys bathroom at the school.

He said Maine State Police were informed about the threat a few minutes after noon, and that by 1:20 p.m., they had searched the building and gotten all the students back into class.

Nothing else suspicious was found in the school during the search, he said.

“Whoever it was didn’t get away with much,” the trooper said.
