Police arrest second suspect in home invasion

HARTLAND, Maine — A second man has been arrested on Class A robbery charges after an armed home invasion on Route 23 earlier this month.

Police went to a Route 152 home at about 2 a.m. Thursday after receiving information that David A. McGregor Jr., 19, was there. McGregor was arrested without incident, according to Lt. Carl Gottardi of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

The home invasion occurred Feb. 12, just after midnight.

According to Gottardi, two men forcibly entered a residence and stole several items, including a small amount of marijuana, purses, a digital camera and an iPod. The camera and iPod have been recovered, Gottardi said. The men used clothing to conceal their faces and were armed with a knife and a clublike weapon. One victim in the home, an adult male, suffered a laceration during an altercation with the robbers and later was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield for treatment, Gottardi said.

Later in the day, the Sheriff’s Department obtained a search warrant for the home of Gary Page on Hubbard Road in Canaan. During the search detectives found drugs, including marijuana and pills, and drug paraphernalia as well as some of the property stolen during the home invasion or used in commission of the invasion.

Gary Page, 26, was arrested and charged with Class A armed robbery.

There were three people in the home at the time of the robbery, Gottardi said, and the victims were threatened to turn over specific items that the robbers were seeking. He would not confirm that the victims were familiar with the robbers.

Gottardi said three detectives and five deputies went to the scene of the robbery and a Sheriff’s Department K-9 attempted to track the perpetrators.

State police Troopers Sgt. Rod Charrette and Peter Michaud and Somerset County Deputy Ritchie Putnam participated in McGregor’s arrest.
