NAUGATUCK, Conn. — A Connecticut police officer who poses as a 14-year-old girl to catch Internet sex predators has arrested a Maine man for allegedly attempting to impair the morals of a minor.

Naugatuck Detective Ronald Blanchard took 48-year-old Matthew Small of Windham, Maine, into custody Wednesday at an undisclosed location in Massachusetts.

Police say Small used e-mail and Internet chat rooms to send sexually explicit pictures of himself and other pornographic images to what he thought was a 14-year-old girl, but was really Blanchard.

Small is charged with 12 counts of attempting to impair the morals of a minor and one count of attempting to promote a minor in an obscene performance.

He is being held on $250,000 bond and is to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Thursday.
