SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Maine’s real estate industry says home sales dropped between January 2008 and the same month this year as 87 fewer homes were sold, for a decline of nearly 18 percent.
The Maine Real Estate Information System also says the statewide median sale price for a single-family home, $152,250 in January, was nearly 18 percent lower than it was a year earlier.
Maine’s figures follow national trends. The National Association of Realtors says home sales decreased by 7 percent last month. The national median price for a single family home also slipped by nearly 14 percent.
