Maine snowmobiler dies of injuries from crash

LILY BAY TOWNSHIP, Maine — A 68-year-old Maine man has died of injuries suffered in a weekend snowmobile accident on a trail four miles from Kokadjo.

The Maine Warden Service said Paul Tibbetts of Lily Bay was riding with his five nephews Sunday when he missed a turn on a groomed trail and struck a snow bank. Tibbetts, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown over the front of his machine and landed on his back.

Tibbetts’ nephews transported him to a Greenville hospital. He was transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he died Tuesday.

The warden service said Tibbetts’ death was the sixth snowmobile-related fatality of the season.
