Newport teen hurt in two-car accident

NEWPORT, Maine — A local man suffered head injuries Tuesday when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic at a stop sign and was broadsided by another car.

Brandon Lasselle, 19, was driving a 2003 Kia sedan and was pulling out of Grove Street onto Elm Street at 5:51 p.m., according to police Sgt. Sanger Davis.

Lasselle pulled into the path of an oncoming 2001 Chrysler operated by Christopher Meservey, 35, of Palmyra, Davis said.

The Newport Fire Department had to use extrication tools to remove Lasselle from his car. He was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, Davis said.

Both men were wearing seat belts, and Davis said the accident remains under investigation.
