ORONO, Maine — Gov. John Baldacci and other political leaders will be in Orono to join in a series of announcements regarding the state’s leadership role in the development of composite bridges.
The University of Maine’s Advanced Engineered Wood Composites Center has been designing and testing the use of composites in a number of areas, including bridges and wind turbine equipment.
Friday’s announcements will highlight the completion of a composite bridge in Pittsfield, a spinoff company to commercialize composite bridge arch technology in Orono and job growth in the composite bridge market at another spinoff business in Brunswick.
Joining Baldacci will be Sen. Susan Collins, Rep. Mike Michaud and center director Habib Dagher.
