BANGOR, Maine — It was a disappointing loss, but at least it gave the Fort Kent girls basketball team a chance to show their support for two players who have been out of action much of this season.

Late in the fourth quarter of No. 3 George Stevens’ 63-36 Eastern Maine Class C quarterfinal win over the No. 6 Warriors, Fort Kent coach Travis Delisle was able to sub in junior guard Taylor Boucher and sophomore center Jessica Walker for a few seconds of action. Boucher tore a knee ligament earlier this year while Walker suffers from colitis and has been in and out of the hospital this winter.

Boucher has been rehabilitating her knee and is due for surgery in a couple of weeks, while Walker just got out of the hospital last week, Delisle said. Both girls were members of last year’s varsity team.

“We told them if the game got out of control, we would get them in for a couple of seconds,” he said. “It was a tribute to them.”

Boucher got off the last shot of the game, but it fell short.
