MILBRIDGE – Elaine Ricker Hill, 70, passed away Feb. 11, 2009, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough. She was born in 1938 in Portland and raised in South Portland. Elaine graduated from South Portland High School in 1956. She then attended Sister’s Hospital School of Nursing, Waterville. After working at Bar Harbor and Machias hospitals and several nursing homes, Elaine’s nursing career steered her to Milbridge Medical Center. She was a dedicated and compassionate nurse, serving the community without hesitation. Her kind and gentle manner combined with a quick wit and dry sense of humor were the perfect mix for her lifework. Her devotion to her work and the surrounding community was paramount, culminating with the dedication of the Woman’s Health Resource Library at Milbridge Medical Center in her name. She was the wife of the late Carleton P. Hill of Milbridge; and daughter of the late Robert W. Ricker Jr. of South Portland. She is survived by her mother, Frances M. Ricker of South Portland; three children, son, Richard and his wife, Marcie, of Windham, son, Scott and his wife, Trish, of Cotuit, Mass., and daughter, Carol Hill Zimmermann and her husband, Mark, of Bowie, Md.; and five grandchildren, Jeremy, Hannah, Tom, Jason, and Daniel. She is also survived by three siblings, Robert D. Ricker and his wife, Roberta, of South Portland, Debra Ricker Jenkins and her husband, Jack, of Gloucester, Mass., and Beth Ricker Stark and her husband, Jim, of Scarborough; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. March 7 at Bragdon-Kelly Funeral Home, Milbridge. Donations may be made to the Women’s Health Resource Library or to a local breast cancer research center.
