HARTLAND, Maine — Somerset County Sheriff’s Department detectives have arrested a Canaan man after an investigation of an armed home invasion and robbery that was reported at 12:33 a.m. Thursday on Route 23.

According to Detective Sgt. Carl Gottardi III, initial reports indicated that two men forcibly entered a residence and stole several things. The men used clothing to conceal their faces and were armed. Although Gottardi would not release details of what weapons were used, one victim in the home, an adult male, suffered a laceration during an altercation with the robbers and later was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital for treatment.

Later in the day, the Sheriff’s Department obtained a search warrant for the home of Gary Page on Hubbard Road in Canaan. During the search detectives found drugs, including marijuana and pills, and drug paraphernalia as well as property believed to have been stolen during the home invasion or used in commission of the invasion.

Gary Page, 26, was arrested and charged with Class A armed robbery. More charges relating to the home invasion and other matters will be forthcoming against Page, the department said in a press release.

There were three people in the home at the time of the robbery, Gottardi said, and the victims were threatened to turn over specific items that the robbers were seeking. He would not confirm that the victims were familiar with the robbers.

Gottardi said three detectives and five deputies went to the scene of the robbery and a Sheriff’s Department K-9 attempted to track the perpetrators.
