BELFAST, Maine — A local man was arrested on drug charges after authorities uncovered an indoor marijuana growing operation on Waterville Road.
Hector Amaro, 23, of 5 Waterville Road was charged with marijuana cultivation, possession of scheduled drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Amaro also is being held at Waldo County Jail on a fugitive-from-justice warrant out of Massachusetts where he is wanted for unpaid restitution charges.
A search warrant was obtained by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department Detective Division on Tuesday after officers developed information about the possible growing operation. Detective Merl Reed, Deputy Ben Seekins, Belfast Detective Michael McFadden, Officer Bryan Cunningham and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officers participated in the raid.
Officers found an indoor-growing operation in a room inside the garage and seized 37 plants as well as grow lights and fans. Also seized were a 12-gauge shotgun, an assortment of drug paraphernalia and prescription medication that was not prescribed to Amaro. He is being held at Waldo County Jail.
