DEXTER, Maine — The town and local businesses will roll out the welcome mat this weekend to celebrate winter.
A variety of events will be held over three days, including a public supper and fireworks.
“Basically it’s to give everybody a good time in the middle of winter, try to help out the local businesses, and the snowmobile club tries to make a little money to help them out,” Delmas Hodgkins of the Wassookeag Snowmobile Club said Monday.
The club is sponsoring several events, including a spaghetti supper, by donation, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the snowmobile clubhouse, followed by a ride-in. Both of the events will benefit the Harold Wilkins Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union will sponsor a chili cook-off from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the credit union, and the Abbott Memorial Library will hold a Valentine’s Day story and tea hour at 4 p.m.
Saturday’s events will begin with radar runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a snow sculpture contest at noon at the Wassookeag beach area.
Other events include horse and wagon rides from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; roller-skating from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Town Hall; an adult dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 7:30 p.m., for which there is a $10 admission charge; and fireworks at 7 p.m. at Little Wassookeag Lake.
On Sunday, there will be a snowmobile parade at 11 a.m. followed at noon by the presentation of awards for the events.
