Tobogganers converge on Camden for races

The Associated Press

CAMDEN, Maine (AP) — About 400 teams are expected to compete as the 19th annual National Toboggan Championships get under way in Camden.

Teams from all across the country come to the Camden Snow Bowl each year to participate in the friendly competition, where tobogganers wearing costumes fly down a 400-foot chute.

Friday was registration day for participants, who will get a chance to take practice runs down the chute that dates to the 1930s.

Races are held Saturday and Sunday, with an awards ceremony Sunday afternoon.
