BELFAST, Maine — A Unity man was arrested Monday on charges of assaulting a medical provider and a police officer.

Ralph T. Pagliaroli, 52, was arrested about 8 a.m. Monday at Waldo County General Hospital on charges of assault on an emergency medical provider, assault, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, and failure to sign a summons.

Patrolman Eric Kelly said Pagliaroli had been taken to the hospital the night before with a shoulder injury after having fallen while under the influence of alcohol. While at the hospital, Pagliaroli allegedly urinated on a staff member, hit another and tried to bite another.

Kelly said that when he attempted to give Pagliaroli a summons for assaulting a medical provider, he refused to sign the ticket. Kelly said when he advised Pagliaroli that he would be taken to jail, he continued to resist signing the summons.

Kelly said Pagliaroli began to struggle when he was placed under arrest and that Pagliaroli kicked him and struck him in the face and attempted to kick out the window of the police cruiser.

Pagliaroli was taken to the Waldo County Jail where bail was set at $400 cash.
