MILLINOCKET, Maine — A Millinocket man has been charged with stabbing a Medway resident during an altercation outside a Central Street bar on Dec. 21, police said Thursday,
Corey Hannafin, 30, was being held at Penobscot County Jail in Bangor on $2,500 bail on Thursday.
Hannafin was charged with aggravated assault at around midnight Wednesday at his Riverside Drive home as a result of information Sgt. Aaron Brooker, the case’s lead investigator, developed during the day, Brooker said Thursday.
“I am still investigating this,” Brooker said. “There could be additional charges. That will be determined by the district attorney’s office.”
Daniel Deschaine, 26, of Medway, suffered at least two stab wounds to his left leg when he was attacked outside the Highland Tavern in the early morning hours of Dec. 21, Deschaine and Brooker said.
A scuffle or argument of some sort between Hannafin and Deschaine, and possibly others, preceded the stabbing, Brooker said.
Brooker arrested Hannafin after witness statements identified him as the assailant. Some evidence was also sent to the state crime lab in Augusta for processing, Brooker said. The weapon used in the stabbing has not been recovered.
