BARBARA ANN CASSIDY

BANGOR – Barbara Ann Cassidy passed away Feb. 1, 2009, after a long illness. Barbara was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Bangor, the youngest daughter of John Francis Cassidy Jr. and Isabel Delano Cassidy. She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School, Bangor; Convent of the Sacred Heart, Noroton, Conn.; and Sacred Heart College, Newton, Mass. She received her Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. She worked for several years at State Street Bank, Boston, where she enjoyed the performing arts, especially the theatre. She returned to Bangor in 1965, where she resided at the family home and was employed by Eastern Trust and Banking Co. While in Bangor, she continued her interest in the arts and became an avid bridge player. Her nieces and nephews have fond memories of the driftwood bonfires and lobster bakes at Quest End, the family summer cottage in Searsport. She will be best remembered for her dedication to philanthropy throughout the state of Maine. She particularly enjoyed serving on the board of Maine Maritime Academy and Husson College Board of Trustees. In addition, she was a member of the Junior League, Zonta Club, Penobscot Valley Country Club and Penobscot Marine Museum. Barbara was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Joan C. Stetson; and her brother, John F. Cassidy III. She is survived by her sister, Roselle C. Flynn of Kennebunk; her 13 nieces and nephews, James W. Cassidy of Holden, Mass., John F. Cassidy IV of Bangor, John P. Flynn, Martha J. Flynn, Isabel F. Lescure, Elisabeth F. Roberts, all of Kennebunk, Roselle F. Johnson and Mary F. Woodman of Kennebunkport, Anne C. Mazer of Scarborough, Sarah Neville of Bethesda, Md., John E. Stetson and Barbara Stetson-Vanamee of Portland, and Stephen W. Stetson of Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor, with a reception afterward in the church parish hall.
