Brewer police summoned a high school student Monday morning for possession of a usable amount of marijuana and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Joel Whitney, 18, of Aurora came to the attention of Brewer school resource officer Elizabeth Kelley before the school day began, when she saw him and another student, whose name was not disclosed, smoking cigarettes in front of the Hannaford grocery store off Wilson Street, Cpl. Paul Gauvin said Monday night.

Kelley relayed that information to Brewer High School officials, who conducted a search of Whitney’s locker, where they found two small plastic bags containing a usable amount of pot, and his car, where they found the paraphernalia, Gauvin said. No information was immediately available about what happened to the second student. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
