Significant snowfall expected Wednesday

The Associated Press

A stretched-out winter storm system is taking aim at New England and will spread snow into the region around daybreak Wednesday moving northeastward during the day, according to the National Weather Service. Significant snowfall is forecast for Maine especially from midday into the evening hours for most locations.

Easterly winds are going to develop as the surface low associated with the storm crosses southern New England Wednesday evening and heads along the Maine coast the rest of the night. The storm should be raking the Canadian Maritimes by daybreak Thursday. While Maine will see improvement from the southwest, northern areas and the mountains will see lingering snow showers on Thursday.

High pressure builds over Maine late Thursday into Friday providing nice weather to much of the region. Mountain areas will still continue to see snow showers at times. Temperatures are going to be a little closer to normal on Friday, in the 20s. And the good weather should stretch into the weekend.
