Maine paper mill to cut 130 jobs

The Associated Press

RUMFORD, Maine — The NewPage Corp. paper mill in Rumford says 130 employees will lose their jobs during the next few weeks.

The company said Tuesday it is eliminating 30 salaried positions and 100 hourly jobs, reducing the mill’s total work force to about 860.

Ohio-based NewPage did not specify the impact on the various departments at the mill but said nearly all operating and staff areas will be affected.

Temporary layoffs late last year at Rumford affected about 250 workers.

The latest job cuts are part of a companywide move to balance production with demand.
