BIDDEFORD, Maine — Two fishermen are safe and sound after being rescued when their boat began taking on water seven miles off the southern Maine coast.

According to the Coast Guard, fishermen aboard the 44-foot boat Whistling Dixie out of Harpswell radioed for help shortly before 11:30 a.m. Monday after striking a submerged object off Biddeford.

A state Marine Patrol vessel recovered Andrew Johnson of Harpswell and an unidentified man from a life raft a short time later and brought them to safety.

The Coast Guard says the boat was partially submerged in 330 feet of water Monday afternoon.
