WARREN, Maine — A Rockland man was killed and his female passenger seriously injured early Saturday when he rolled his car over on Beechwood Street and was ejected from the vehicle.

Mazurick A. Rich, 26, was killed instantly in the 4:20 a.m. wreck, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Ernie McIntosh. Rich’s passenger, Chantelle Quint, 22, of Rockland, was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport for treatment for a broken back.

McIntosh said Rich was driving a 1997 Pontiac north toward Route 90 when he lost control on a curve and the vehicle rolled over. He apparently was not wearing a seat belt.

“The accident was alcohol- and speed-related,” McIntosh said Sunday.

Beechwood Street was closed for five hours while police investigated and reconstructed the accident scene. Deputy Paul Pinkham handled the investigation for the Sheriff’s Department, and the Maine State Police conducted the reconstruction.
