OLD TOWN, Maine — The annual Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society is scheduled to take place at the Old Town High School track in May. Organizers are busy planning the event and will hold an informational dinner later this month.

The dinner will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Bangor Banquet and Conference Center at 701 Hogan Road in Bangor. The evening will feature a buffet dinner, information on how to get a team registered for the relay and a luminaria remembrance ceremony.

The Relay for Life in Old Town is an 18-hour event starting at 6 p.m. Friday, May 29, and ending at noon the next day. Anyone interested in joining the planning committee, becoming a team captain, volunteering or just finding out more about Relay for Life is encouraged to attend the kickoff.

In 2008, participants in the Old Town Relay for Life raised more than $170,000 for local programs of cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services, including transportation for cancer patients and one-on-one support for women with breast cancer.

For more information about Relay for Life, to volunteer, or to RSVP for the Relay Kickoff, contact Mike Hart, community executive for development, at 989-0332.
