Arrests near in Newport robbery case

By Sharon Kiley Mack, BDN Staff

NEWPORT, Maine — Newport police expected to obtain several arrest warrants Monday night in connection with an armed robbery that occurred here early Sunday morning, according to Chief Leonard Macdaid.

Macdaid was deliberately mum on details, preferring to wait until after the arrests were made. He did say Monday, however, that at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday more than one person kicked in the door on a mobile home on New Road, which is located behind McDonald’s Restaurant at the Triangle Business District.

The perpetrators knew the victims, he said, and at least one of them brandished a handgun. No one was injured in the incident, Macdaid said.

Lt. Randy Wing is handling the investigation.
