DEER ISLE, Maine — An Ellsworth woman died in a single-car crash on Reach Road on Sunday afternoon.
According to Trooper Tom Pickering of the Maine State Police, Lisa Martin, 47, of Ellsworth died at the scene.
The accident occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday. Trooper Pickering said that Anthony Robbins, 33, of Ellsworth was traveling south on the road when he lost control of his vehicle coming out of a curve about two-thirds of the way down Reach Road toward Oak Point. The vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a telephone pole.
The vehicle hit the pole on the passenger side of the car where Martin was seated. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Robbins suffered serious head injuries and was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. There was no immediate report on his condition.
Both people were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
According to Trooper Pickering, speed was a factor in the accident. Investigators will conduct a blood alcohol test on Robbins, which is standard procedure in a fatal accident. The officer noted that Robbins’ driver’s license previously had been revoked.
The accident was reconstructed by Trooper Jessica Shorey and it remains under investigation.
