ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine men out-rebounded Binghamton University and committed fewer turnovers, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Black Bears from starting off their conference schedule with a loss on Saturday.
Binghamton forward D.J. Rivera scored a game-high 24 points after canning five of nine 3-point attempts and the Bearcats shot nearly 50 percent from 3-point range to notch a 70-62 victory over Maine at Alfond Arena.
Dwayne Jackson scored 12 points for the 8-4 Bearcats, who are now 1-0 in America East play.
Maine, now 5-9 overall, was led by freshman guard Gerald McLemore, who scored 16. Maine’s Junior Bernal added 14 points to go with nine rebounds.
