The Associated Press

Augusta, Maine – Maine fire officials are still working to pinpoint the cause of a fire that killed an Augusta woman on New Year’s Day.

Officials say the fire started in the bedroom of a second-floor apartment but the victim was found in the living room. She’s identified as 53-year-old Elizabeth McIntire.

Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Stephen McCausland says the fire in the seven-unit downtown building broke out between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday. None of the others in the building were hurt.
