Belfast man faces charges in assault

By Walter Griffin

BELFAST, Maine — A city man was arrested on a domestic assault charge after allegedly punching his girlfriend in the face Monday night.

Eugene Caston, 46, of Cardinal Circle was charged with domestic assault and violation of conditions of release after the 8:30 p.m. incident at his residence.

Detective Michael McFadden said Caston was on bail at the time and was not supposed to be drinking alcohol or engaging in criminal behavior. McFadden said Caston had done both.

McFadden said two 15-year-old boys were present and witnessed the assault. One of the boys ran to a neighbor’s home to call the police.

McFadden said that when Officer Wendall Ward arrived at the residence, Caston said “Dude, I didn’t do anything wrong,” to him. The victim had cuts to her face and nose but did not require hospitalization. Sgt. John Gibbs and patrol Officer Brian Lunt also responded to the complaint.

Caston was taken to the Waldo County Jail where he is being held on $1,000 cash bail.
