Iain McCray Martin, a 2005 Deer Isle-Stonington High School graduate, will screen his documentary “Life By Lobster,” a still from which is shown above, at the Stonington Opera House at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3. Martin turned his camera on his fellow islanders, specifically those of his own generation who work as lobster fishermen. The film examines the challenges facing the commercial lobster fishing industry and its viability as a career choice for younger people in Maine. Martin is pursuing a degree in film at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., but returned to his hometown to document the lives of the people he grew up with. The screening is sponsored by Opera House Arts’ Imagination Project Public Access Digital Media Studio, which provides free access to digital video and still cameras and other film equipment to community members.
