Nova Scotia man injured in I-95 crash

CARMEL, Maine — A Nova Scotia man escaped serious injury Tuesday morning when he lost control of his car on the slippery northbound lane of Interstate 95 and wound up upside down in the highway median.

Daniel Fraser, 67, was headed north in his Cadillac sedan shortly after 9 a.m. when he approached wintry conditions near mile marker 170, Maine State Police Trooper Brenda Coolen said.

“He was simply driving too fast for the conditions,” she said.

Fraser was in the passing lane when he began to fishtail, witnesses told Coolen, and he couldn’t stop the car from veering off the road and flipping over into the median.

When police and fire crews arrived, Fraser was trapped inside his vehicle. After several minutes, rescue personnel extricated the man, Coolen said. He was then taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

“He had a cut on his head and some broken bones, I think,” the trooper said. “They were going to keep him there for a couple days just to be safe.”

Police shut down the passing lane of I-95 northbound for about an hour while they cleared the scene.
