2 arrested on drug charges

BANGOR, Maine — A Lewiston man described as a transient and a juvenile female, also from Lewiston, face drug charges after they were arrested over the weekend during a traffic stop on Ohio Street.

William James Scardoni, 29, and the female were charged with drug trafficking after members of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Bangor Police Department seized about an ounce of cocaine and a gram of heroin from the two, according to MDEA Director Roy McKinney.

McKinney said Scardoni’s charge was elevated to aggravated because of the minor’s involvement in the transportation of the drugs. He said the cocaine had a street value of approximately $1,200 and that the heroin was worth about $250.

After his arrest, Scardoni was taken to Penobscot County Jail, McKinney said. Scardoni, who made an initial appearance Monday at 3rd District Court in Bangor, remained in jail Tuesday, unable to make bail of $30,000 surety or $9,900 cash, Penobscot County Assistant District Attorney Alice Clifford said.

The minor female, whose name was withheld because of her age, was taken to Mountain View Youth Development Center in Charleston. No further information about her status was available Tuesday.

According to McKinney, Scardoni has an extensive criminal history, which includes drug and robbery convictions.
