CAMDEN, Maine — Investigators on Monday continued to look for a cause of the fire that ripped through the Bayview Landing construction project the evening of Dec. 23.

Sgt. Ken Grimes of the state Fire Marshal’s Office said Monday his office has not been able to link all the evidence to determine a cause.

He said he could not say whether a portable heater in the building was the cause.

“There was a portable space heater, but we can’t say yet whether that caused the fire,” he said.

He said the investigation remains open.

The fire was reported at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, and destroyed a building that was under construction to house a restaurant and an inn. Firefighters arrived within minutes and aid came from Rockland, Rockport, Lincolnville and Hope fire units.

The wooden frame structure was located adjacent to the town landing in the downtown business district. The landing had been under construction for about three months.
