Court hearing postponed in Maine manslaughter case

The Associated Press

WILTON, Maine — A court hearing has been postponed for a 25-year-old Wilton man charged with manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend’s 17-month-old son.

David Cook was scheduled to make an initial court appearance Monday, but Deputy Attorney General Bill Stokes said it was postponed because Cook was in the hospital.

Cook is charged in the death of Brandy Swett’s son, Matteo Hanson, who died Nov. 29 after falling down a flight of stairs at his mother’s Wilton apartment.

Police say Cook was alone with the boy and his 3-year-old sister while Swett was at work.

The state medical examiner’s office has ruled the death a homicide.
