MILLINOCKET – Barbara A. Symonds, 77, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 16, 1931, in Methuen, Mass., daughter of Raymond and Alice (Young) Twombly. Barbara grew up in Ayers Village, Mass., and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1948. She married Allan E. Symonds, Aug. 23, 1952, to whom she had been a devoted wife for 56 years. Barbara dedicated her life to raising her family and being involved in their lives. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family, who will miss her greatly. In addition to her husband, Allan Symonds, Barbara is survived by her three children, Allan E. Symonds Jr. and his wife, Paula, of Gastonia, N.C., Cheryle Levesque and her husband, Phil, of Hampden and Bruce Symonds and his wife, Helen, of Deerfield, N.H.; six grandchildren, Shawn, Tracy, Kristen, Ashley, Amy and Bryan; two brothers, Raymond Twombly Jr. and his wife, Ingebord, of Lumberton, Miss., and Robert Twombly and his wife, Judith, of Estero, Fla., and Bridgewater, N.H.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor, and also to the staff at St. Joseph Hospital for the loving care and compassion given to Barbara. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Monday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. Spring interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery.
