AUGUSTA, Maine — The city of Gardiner has filed a lawsuit seeking to retrieve money that was stolen by a former finance administrator who is now in jail for embezzlement.

Patricia Coty pleaded guilty in September to stealing $195,000 from the city between 2002 and 2008. She was ordered to spend nine months in jail.

Coty has already paid back $100,000 and is under court order to repay the remainder.

Gardiner City Manager Jeff Kobrock said the lawsuit is simply an additional measure to ensure the city is made whole from the theft. printed on August 19, 2017
