The burglary occurred just before 2:45 a.m., Sgt. Shawn Van Tasel of the Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

Van Tasel said the thief targeted JP Cash Market on Main Street in Presque Isle. Once the thief smashed out the glass in the front door in order to gain entry to the building, he went inside wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with striping on the shoulders, a baseball cap under the hood, tan pants, a black belt and black shoes.

He moved about the store grabbing an undetermined amount of cigarettes, which he placed in a blue and black knapsack before he fled the store.

All of this was captured on the store’s video surveillance system.

This crime is featured as the December Aroostook County Crimestoppers Crime of the Month. Crimestoppers is a local nonprofit organization that helps law enforcement solve crimes in Aroostook County.

Van Tasel said anyone with information on this crime or any other crime can call Aroostook County Crimestoppers at 800-638-8477.

Callers do not have to give their names. Anyone providing information this month that leads to a grand jury indictment on this crime is eligible for a $1,000 reward.

Crimestoppers also will pay rewards for information on other felony crimes.
