Bangor chase ends when car rolls over

By Kevin Miller, BDN Staff

A Randolph man faces a long list of charges after police reported that he led them on a chase through Bangor that ended when his car rolled over.

The pursuit began just before 4 a.m. Saturday on Third Street in downtown Bangor. Stephen Hanson, 27, turned onto Union Street and hit speeds topping 100 mph as he tried to elude police, according to Bangor police Lt. Tom Reagan.

Hanson apparently lost control of the 2002 Mercury Cougar he was driving while attempting to round a curve at high speed. The car, which was not Hanson’s, rolled over several times, Reagan said. There were no passengers in the car.

Hanson was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.

Reagan said Hanson is a habitual offender and he faces a number of charges including criminal speeding, eluding police, driving to endanger and passing a police roadblock.
