AUBURN, Maine — A 27-year-old former music teacher at an Auburn elementary school has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for molesting and assaulting pupils.

James Raymond Jr. appeared Friday in Androscoggin County Superior Court, where Justice Thomas Delahanty II also sentenced him to two years of probation and a $1,500 fine.

Raymond told the judge that he hoped to get his life back on track and was willing to undergo counseling.

Jurors last summer found Raymond guilty of two counts of unlawful sexual touching and three counts of assault involving former students.

According to testimony, Raymond slid his hand up the skirt of a second-grader during music class and touched the buttocks of a first-grader. A third victim said Raymond touched her leg from her ankle to her knee.
